Finding a way to generate extra income online is not an easy task. It becomes a hundred times more complicated when you are not from the US, Canada or other developed, G7 country.
People looking to make money online from Africa, Asia or Oceania face numerous challenges:
– Too many scammy websites try to use the desperate need for money and limited web experience of developing countries residents. They promise easy (actually, TOO easy) ways to create income, mostly by bringing new members to the same website. These are a pyramid and Ponzi schemes that may run for several years and then disappear, leaving the latest joiners without their investment.
– Most of the legitimate and popular websites don’t accept members from African and Asian countries, to begin with.
– Common payment options used in the US (check, PayPal, Amazon gift cards and similar) are not available in many developing countries because of illiquid currency, inflation and fraud alerts.
So, what can you do if you don’t live in the US, Canada or another G7 country?
In this post, I’m going to list several options for making money online in South Africa, Kenya, Vietnam, the Philippines, and any other country worldwide.
I was inspired to create this collection by heavy visitors’ traffic from developing regions, coming to my Workmines Review post. Unfortunately, I see this website as a potential pyramid scheme, currently running and attracting thousands of new paid members, and I don’t recommend using it.
As an alternative, I’d like to offer several legit ways to earn extra income in Africa and other countries all over the world.
Let’s make it clear – most of the ways recommended below (except the first three) are not going to make anyone rich or able to quit the regular job.
The best part is that the websites I recommend are legitimate and run for several years, paying their members around the world. There are no pyramids, Ponzi scheme or other sorts of scam on this list.
Start Your Own Online Business – Become A Blogger
If you are good at writing in English and willing to put a lot of time and effort into building a sustainable online business, this can be a great option for you.
The best one-stop shop to start your blogging business is Wealthy Affiliates. This is where I started in May 2018. Wealthy Affiliate hosts my MoCashForYou.com blog that you are reading now. I had no clue about building websites before joining WA.
In a nutshell, Wealthy Affiliates provides all you need to create and monetize a blog and make passive income in the future.
This is an affiliate marketing university with the best world-class training and vibrant community of millions of entrepreneurs that help each other since 2005. You don’t need any technical, coding or web design skills to start – everything is in the step-by-step training and the tools provided by Wealthy Affiliates.
You can turn any passion into a thriving business with unlimited income potential. Just recently, Jerry Huang, a 22 years old college drop off from Taiwan, made $100,000 in ONE WEEK, after about two years of learning and implementing the knowledge he has got from Wealthy Affiliate. This is not a typical path, but it’s real, giving us a clue about the income potential waiting for dedicated hard workers with creative minds.
To learn more, you can read my posts below:
Free Starter membership is available in any country, except Nigeria. WA has successful members from South Africa, Kenia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Eastern Europe countries and more. This community respects all its members, with no religion or politics talks allowed.
Let me say it again, as I want you to have the right expectation: blogging is NOT a fast and easy way to get rich. Don’t start with the goal of making thousands after several months. You’ll need persistence and hard work to succeed.
If you are ready to invest your time in learning new skills and want to check out this opportunity, click on the button below (no credit card is required):
Freelancing Jobs That Require Skills
There are many skills that can be used for working from home career or business. The range is really wide – from soft skills like communication to technical skills like website building.
Do you have any skill that can be turned into a freelance job? Check some options below.
In most cases, these skills can be built in quite a short period of time, with the right course and dedication from your side. I’m not talking about rocket science or any other domain that requires years in college and thousands and thousands of dollars.
Proofreading – Turn Your Love Of Words To Money
Maybe it’s not the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about working from home, but there is an incredibly high demand for proofreaders worldwide. It comes from academic researchers, writers, advertisers, bloggers and more.
– fixing errors (spelling, capitalization, punctuation)
– checking consistency
– watching for formatting errors
– providing a final, completed document to the client
How much can you make as a proofreader? Of course, it depends on your efforts, but there are many who get to $40,000 annual earnings from the comfort of their home.
Who can be a good fit? Anyone with a high level of English, the love for correct grammar and an “eagle eye” for spelling.
But how you can become a proofreader? Where do you start? How to find clients?
It is really hard to figure out alone. But don’t be discouraged.
I recommend you check out this FREE 76-minute workshop by Caitlin Pyle who was so good at making money with proofreading that she created the super popular online course that can teach you everything you need to start this business.
Once you master it, proofreading can serve as a perfect foundation for future expansion of your business to copy editing.
Transcription – Turn Audio And Video Into Text and Get Paid
What is transcription? It’s typing down the content of audio and video records. There is a huge demand for transcriptionists in many industries like academia, marketing, films and more. Everyone needs printed content that can be put out and made searchable by Google.
This is not a “get rich” scheme, it’s a home based job. The average median annual income for a general transcriptionist is currently $45,000. If you know how to build the business and get clients, you can hire help and make even more.
As with any job, you must have the right skills and the required skillset includes much more than just the ability to type fast.
To learn more and find out if this type of work is the right choice for you, I recommend you trying the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers a Free Mini course by Janet Shaughnessy, the founder of TranscribeAnywhere, the school approved by the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers.
Now let’s move on to side hustle ideas that you can try in your spare time, without any special skills.
Get Paid To (GPT) Sites – Do Small Tasks And Get Paid
The “Get Paid To” (or GPT) sites offer various easy tasks, like watching videos, taking surveys, completing offers, data entry tasks, product testing and similar. As you are not required to have any professional skills or take any training to do these tasks, the payment is relatively low.
I have a full-time job, three kids and this blog to keep me busy. And still – I love GPT sites and find little time slots here and there to use a bunch of these sites and accumulate enough points to redeem for gift cards or PayPal payments.
If I can do it, anyone can complete simple tasks while watching TV, waiting in line at the doctor’s office or chilling on a couch.
It’s probably the most popular GPT site in the US. Swagbucks is available in most countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia and in some countries in Africa (no specific list is published). The FAQ section on the site suggests you try and sign up with your email and they will let you know if they are already live in your country or when they plan to be.
The ways to earn include taking surveys, watching videos, accepting offers (most will be probably valid in the US), searching the web, shopping, daily polls and more. Swagbucks has a wonderful referral program where you can get $3 + 10% of your friend’s earnings for the life of their account, creating a passive income stream for you.
Minimal payment is $25 for PayPal or just $3 for Amazon gift card and several other cards.
Another popular GPT site is Clixsense and it accepts members 16y old and older, residents of any country.
Ways to earn with Clixsense: surveys, offers, tasks, internet research, referrals.
Tasks are similar as offered by other crowdsourcing platforms – reconciliation, looking for business names, etc.
Here is a sample of best-paying surveys I’m getting. It can be different in your country. Please take into account that you wouldn’t qualify to each survey offered, but the disqualification usually happens fast, after several initial questions.
I randomly checked the earnings of several existing members that participate in the forum and they have made substantial amounts of money with Clixsense. Here are the results from two folks from Brazil and India:
Payment options: Skrill and Tango Card – minimum $10, Payoneer – min $20, checks (US and Canada only) – $10.
PaidViewPoint – Surveys Without Disqualification
Currently, PaidViewPoint is my favorite surveys site for a very important reason: with them, I never waste my time answering questions only to discover I’m not qualified to complete a survey. Once you join PaidViewPoint, you’ll fill out the form with your demographic and other information and you won’t be asked for this information ever again!
New members are accepted from any country where PayPal is available (about 200 countries). To signup, you’ll need an email address and a phone number.
Even if you are from the country that is not on this list, you can join, but you will have to ask a friend who has PayPal to receive your earnings. The minimum cashout is $15. You can also be paid through Virtual Incentives.
Here is the payment I’ve received from Umongous Inc, PaidViewPoint’s parent company:
The invitation to surveys are sent to your email only when you are in the target audience, so you will never be disqualified and always will be paid for your time. The surveys are usually short (up to 10-15 questions) and mobile friendly.
The downside is that you only get a few surveys per week or even less in certain countries. Support team told me that at some locations it can take more than one year to cash out.
From time to time, members receive Trait surveys that pay $0.10. The purpose of these surveys is to collect information about you and assure that your answers are consistent, meaning that you are a reliable person. Answering trait surveys adds points to your Trait Score, maximizing your future earnings potential.
PaidViewPoint.com has a referral program as well, allowing you to make up to $25 per referral.
InstaGC is a website that promises to pay you for various small tasks: watching videos, trying new products, taking surveys, searching the web and more. Additional way to earn points is to use Point Booster Codes given on InstaGC’s FB page. The company exists since 2011 and its parent company “Day Online Solutions” has an A+ rating with Better Business Bureau.
Website is mobile friendly, which is important to anyone who plans to use a cell phone for completing the small tasks on InstaGC.
Accepted audience: Anyone of 18+ age from any country worldwide. Even minors (less than 18 years old) can be accepted with parental permission.
The minimum payout is only $1 for some of the gift cards. For direct deposit (in the US only), eCheck or prepaid Visa, it’s $5 minimum. You must accumulate $50 for cashout with PayPal.
Checking the reviews on the web, I see polar opinions about InstaGC, from happy customers to frustrated folks unable to get any customer service. Common complaints are low payment for surveys and other tasks.
I think you can give it a try and see how it works for you.
This survey platform allows participants of at least 18y old (or from 13y old with parental consent) from all countries.
I’ve checked on several popular tracking sites: Your Surveys doesn’t have the best reviews but might be worth trying anyway, as everyone’s experience might be different.
I’m in the middle of research for more opportunities to make money online from any location on the globe.
Bookmark this page and revisit in a few weeks – I’ll add more as soon as I collect them.
Few examples of what I’m planning to talk about:
- becoming a VA (Virtual Assistant)
- copy editing
- more GPT sites
Can I ask you something?
If you are from a developing country in Africa, Asia or South America and know any additional legitimate website to make money online, please share your experience in a comment below. (Sorry, no affiliate links and email addresses are allowed, only the company/website name).
I’ll be happy to check out and add more legit websites to this list. Let’s help each other to earn money online in an honest way!
